I once listened to an interview with Sydney Poitier in which he said that the people who ultimately sent a man to the moon played cricket on the open fields and beaches with sticks and stones They did not even know what a computer was as young children but they had the imagination to find their toys in the right places They made something from nothingIt is for this reason that I wanted to read this book of the young Malawian boy who made life better by using his intellect despite being thrown out of school due to a lack of payment and a devastating famine which pushed their community to the ground and beyond He persisted with his dream to create electricity for his family and community And he did it A good inspiring read that made a difference to many lives Young people should read this if they can get over their own me me me self entitlements The story speaks to the heart and highlight values that might be foreign to many young people nowadaysI felt so happy when I finished reading this book It gave me hope for the future

review ì PDF, DOC, TXT or eBook ´ William Kamkwamba Free read â The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind Creating Currents of Electricity and Hope Û PDF, DOC, TXT or eBook William Kamkwamba ´ 4 Read & Download Ndmill an unlikely contraption and small miracle that eventually powered four lights complete with homemade switches and a circuit breaker made from nails and wire A second machine turned a water pump that could battle the drought and famine that loomed with every seasonSoon news of William's magetsi a mphepo his electric wind spread beyond the borders of his home and the boy who was once called crazy became an inspiration to those around the worldHere is the remarkable story about human inventiveness and its power to overcome crippling adversity The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind will inspire anyone who doubts the power of one individual's ability to change his community and better the lives of those around him. I think about this book as encouraging subliminal racism while making the western world feel better about themselves I HATE ITThe Boy Who Harnessed the Wind is the memoir of William Kamkwamba a boy from a small village in Malawi In 2002 Malawi suffered a severe drought which caused all seasons crops to die Conseuently William and his family came close to starving and didn t have anything to sell either William was forced to drop out of school because his parents couldn t afford the fees any Still he began to explore science books in a library and decided to build a windmill made out of scrap metal and old bicycle parts That windmill generated electricity he used to pump the water they needed to farm the land rescuing them from starvation William was amazing with educating himself and building the windmill In fact he showed self initiative without support of his family and did what was necessary even though he was only fourteen years old But significant is that no one of the adults took action due to their lack of education In that way it superficially helps to diminish racists ideas because it contradicts the prejudice of white people that colored people are not able to comprehend the knowledge given to them But it also suggests that the majority is in fact not able to educate themselves and are therefore responsible for their own underdevelopment which they are not William is celebrated as the big prodigyTherefore the biggest issue with this book is the writing Of course William didn t write the book himself he barely spoke english and how could he Instead the white journalist Bryan Mealer Texas put his story into words while being extremely US obliging and picturing William as somewhat smart on one side but still retarded at the same time Of course William couldn t be elaborate in a language he barely spoke which is no sign of low intelligence but simply off missing knowledge But Maeler s job would have been to compensate that barrier instead he wrote a book that is purposely grammatically incorrect and sounds like it was written by a three year old Let me give you an example Think of your dreams and ideas as tiny miracle machines inside you that no one can touch The faith you put into them the bigger they get until one day they ll rise up and taken you with them Not only is this unbearable to read it does William injustice who was 23 years old when this book was written That way it prevents William from ever being taken seriously A lot of white people still have horrible ideas in their heads and think about colored people as underdeveloped stupid and uneual When the first colored people were recognized for certain abilities or accomplishments they were celebrated as prodigies not abandoning racist ideas but rather emphasizing the delimitation from the idiocy of the norm William is celebrated as inventor but he didn t invent anything new He was using the knowledge accessible to him to create an amateurish version of a windmill That was enough to save the village which is why the actual story is the extremely low education rate and the responsibilities of the western world regarding the poverty Williams story deserves to be heard but this book is not giving him a voiceAdditionally I m very unhappy that Mealer clearly had the white gaze in mind focusing on Malawis connections to the US As always they picture themselves as great benefactor and they actually do have several development programs in Malawi But Malawi is deputy field for a conflict between the US and China regarding Taiwan there is a border dispute with Tanzania and there are some agriculture interest as well which suggests to me that they simply secure their influence and create the stability they rely on for their own political interestsAs if that wasn t enough the popularity of this story is simple capitalism I m very happy for William that this book became a NYT bestseller and gained him the popularity he needed to get a scholarship to study but it somewhat disgusts me that the actual author is making money of this They even tuned it into a Netflix movie which is ten times better than the book People say that this book inspires them and gives them hope they might even donate ten dollars on Christmas to children s education now but in my opinion it s simply discriminating To me this book feels like the great white man gives the black boy a pat on the back for being the least stupid among his retarded communityIn my opinion this book is backstabbing racism
